Manhattanville Again Ranks Number One for Social Mobility among Private, Non-profit Schools in New York According to U.S. News & World Report

PURCHASE, NY, September 12, 2022 – According to the latest issue of the U.S. News & World Report, Manhattanville College continues to be one of the Top Performers for Social Mobility among private, non-profit schools in its category. And this year, U.S. News & World Report added Manhattanville to its unranked Ethnic Diversity list for Regional Universities North.

Manhattanville ranked first for private, non-profit schools in New York and seventeenth overall for social mobility in Regional Universities North, according to the 2023 Best Colleges rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report this week. This is the second consecutive year that Manhattanville has been recognized as the number one institution for social mobility among private, non-profit schools in New York. The College also remained high on the list among Regional Universities, North both as a Best Value School (#73) and overall (#58).

“Manhattanville College continues to rank favorably in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, particularly when it comes to creating upward mobility for students,’’ said Interim President Louise Feroe, Ph.D. “Our ranking shows that we are among the top schools when it comes to preparing students for better jobs and helping them to advance to upper income brackets at a higher rate.’’

Feroe said that the ranking was recognition of Manhattanville’s commitment to underserved students. She pointed to a number of recent achievements including the college’s designation by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), allowing the college to seek federal funding to provide more resources and support for Hispanic students. And this year, Manhattanville earned an Equity and Inclusion badge from Colleges of Distinction, which it was named to overall for the sixth consecutive year.

Feroe said that all these distinctions have added up to a winning year for Manhattanville, which has bucked a national trend for the fall semester with one of the largest increases in new student enrollment in recent history, welcoming more than 700 new undergraduate and graduate students to campus.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings have been listing institutions for more than 35 years. The latest edition assesses 1,452 U.S. bachelor's degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality in addition to information on application requirements, tuition and financial aid policies, student body demographics, and campus life. See all rankings here.
